MILWAUKEE, WI — The Milwaukee Police Department apologized Wednesday to a rape victim because details about the victim's identity and case were leaked, CBS58.com reported.
According to the report, the case will now be investigated by another agency. Meanwhile, the department said it will change its policies regarding crime victims' rights.
"In your case, we fell short and we deeply apologize for the trauma and loss of trust this caused," the MPD said in new court documents. "Please know your decision to seek accountability has affected real change."
The victim, who said she was sexually assaulted in 2014, sued the department in part because her name, police interview and investigative files were leaked. She said a settlement had been reached with the city.
