Some Woodland Conference Fall Sports Practice Delayed One Week

GREENDALE, WI — Several high school sports teams were scheduled to start practice this week, but have been delayed as athletic conference officials await further guidance from state and local health officials. The Woodland Conference has announced that all sports deemed "low risk" by the WIAA, which were scheduled to start practice Monday 2020 will be delayed one week and begin their season on Monday, August 24. Low-risk sports scheduled to start this fall include: Girls swimming and divingGirls tennisBoys and girls cross countryGirls golf Officials said the decision came as a result of a joint meeting of school superintendents and athletic directors. Conference officials said they're expecting future guidance from the state Department of Health Services and the WIAA. Officials also said they're expecting more feedback from parents related announcements related to high-risk sports. Discussions of activities deemed as "high risk" by the WIAA, such as volleyball, soccer, football, cheer and dance will take place next week and those decisions could have an impact on the conference's low-risk activities for this fall, officials said. The Woodland is a 14-member Conference that includes Brown Deer, Cudahy, Greendale, Greenfield, Milwaukee Lutheran, New Berlin Eisenhower, New Berlin West, Pewaukee, Pius XI Catholic, Shorewood, South Milwaukee, West Allis Central, Whitnall, and Wisconsin Lutheran high schools.
