FRANKLIN, WI – A Franklin man who worked as a corrections officer for the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department resigned on Tuesday, department officials confirmed. Gilberto Fernandez-Rosa, 26, resigned after he was arrested and charged in connection with the sexual assault of two women at the county jail. Fernandez-Rosa was arrested on Jan. 29 and charged with felony counts of second-degree sexual assault by a correctional officer and one count of fourth-degree sexual assault, which is a misdemeanor. In a statement issued Tuesday, Milwaukee County Sheriff Earnell R. Lucas said that "The resignation of Mr. Fernandez-Rosa is reflective of the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office holding its members to a high standard and an acknowledgement that he could no longer uphold the high honor of his employment." Fernandez-Rosa had worked at the jail since 2018, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported and he remains in custody at the jail on a $10,000 bond. The newspaper reported that Fernandez-Rosa is said to have grabbed one victim on multiple occasions and exposed himself to a co-worker.
