Description

Press release from the Northshore School District: Nov 30 2020 Today is the last day of Native American Heritage Month. Last week students at Woodmoor Elementary had the opportunity to learn about and celebrate the rich Native culture through an assembly hosted by Eastside Native American Education Program (ENAEP), a consortium of the Lake Washington, Bellevue and Northshore school districts. Students learned that there are more than 500 tribes, each with their own flag and language. Other highlights included pre- and post-treaty maps showing the land that was retained by the Natives, along with diverse songs, dances and storytelling. The overarching message was that of gratitude to the land, nature, history, and one another. While this year has been different in so many ways, there is so much to be grateful for. Students were encouraged to go into the future with hope, determination and desire to work together to make this a good world!
