WOODINVILLE, WA — The King County Sheriff's Office is looking for a woman after she was caught on camera taking a package while dressed as an Amazon delivery person. Video captured by a home surveillance camera showed an unidentified woman leave a small package on the porch before returning to take a large package Saturday morning. Detectives said the woman put both items in the trunk of a getaway car then hopped in the passenger seat.
The King County Sheriff's Office said the woman is not a legitimate Amazon employee, but was somehow able to get ahold of the vest. Anyone who recognizes her is asked to contact investigators at 206-296-3311.
A recent report ranked the Seattle-Tacoma area as the fifth most likely metro area in the nation to be victimized by package thieves. The King County Sheriff's Office has shared a few tips to keep porch pirates at bay this holiday season:
Don't send packages to your home: send them to your office, or a trusted neighbor who will be home during delivery.Schedule a delivery window or day when you will be home, or have packages held at the facility.Get your package delivered to a nearby locker if offered by the retailer.Consider a post office box: USPS, UPS, and other shipping companies offer these options. Finally, invest in a doorbell camera. If you can't have your packages sent elsewhere, capturing good video of your porch pirate can help in a theft investigation.
