SEATTLE, WA — The Washington State Patrol said protesters who blocked interstate lanes are being removed from northbound I-5 near Yesler Way, and 12 have been arrested.
The interstate was shut down for the removal of those blocking it and a state trooper Rick Johnson said on Twitter, "Troopers are at the scene and arresting the individuals blocking the freeway. The freeway will be clear shortly."
Local news reported the protesters got onto the freeway and blocked the collector-distributor lanes near Yesler Way around 12:30 p.m. Monday.
Late in the afternoon, Johnson reported 12 had been arrested.
"A total of 12 arrested and will be booked. Roadway is clear. Great job by @wastatepatrol troopers who responded and took care of this situation. Thanks for those in the backup for your patience," the state trooper's Twitter account read.
Reports circulated that a woman had been injured and was being attended to at the roadside, but the state police report did not mention any injuries, only arrests made.
