Description

SEATTLE — A major gas leak prompted a large emergency response and evacuations in Seattle's Georgetown neighborhood Friday afternoon. The Seattle Fire Department said "dangerous levels of natural gas" were detected inside a commercial building on the 7000 block of Airport Way South, near Boeing Field, around 2:30 p.m. King County confirmed the Boeing Field terminal was evacuated just before 3 p.m., and officials said all flight operations would remain suspended until the scene was clear. First responders established a half-mile perimeter around the scene and asked those in the immediate area to be prepared to evacuate if asked. The fire department confirmed the leak was secured by Puget Sound Energy around 3:30 p.m. In a news release Friday afternoon, county officials said preliminary reports indicated that contractors working in an airport parking lot struck a natural gas line. Officials said no injuries were reported and no homes were located within the evacuation zone. AlertSeattle: Seattle Fire response at 7000 Blk. of Airport Way S. for natural gas leak.
