Description
What is a firefighter suit called ?
Bunker gear (also known as turnout gear, fire kit and incident gear) is the personal protective equipment (PPE) used by firefighters. The term can refer, depending on the context, to just the trousers, boots and jacket, or to the entire combination of protective clothing.
How much heat can a firefighter suit stand ?
The suits can withstand up to 1,000-degree heat and are up to three times lighter than typical turnout gear. The College of Textiles helped create the suit prototype as part of ongoing research after the terrorist events of Sept. 11, 2001.
