Washington Hits Voting Milestone, Statewide Turnout Above 83%

OLYMPIA, WA — More than 4 million Washington voters cast ballots in the 2020 General Election, reaching a historic milestone for voter participation in the Evergreen State. As of Wednesday evening, elections officials had received 4,069,665 ballots, representing about 83.2 percent of Washington's roughly 4.9 million registered voters. By comparison, statewide turnout in the 2016 presidential election peaked at 79.4 percent. Final participation totals may increase after the remaining ballots are tallied. The deadline for certification this year is Tuesday, Nov. 24. The second batch of election results released Wednesday accounted for about 3.6 million ballots, according to data from the Secretary of State's office, with an estimated 415,226 left to be counted. Top 10 counties for voter turnout, by percentage (as of 11/4): Jefferson County: 89.8% (24,871 ballots)Columbia County: 88.9% (2,518 ballots)Garfield County: 88.6% (1,495 ballots)Kittitas County: 88% (26,674 ballots)Whatcom County: 87.7% (139,166 ballots)Lincoln County: 87.6% (7,042 ballots)San Juan County: 87.5% (12,773 ballots)Wahkiakum County: 86.5% (3,010 ballots)King County: 85.5% (1,222,048 ballots)Clark County: 85.3% (277,203 ballots) In the state's three most populous counties, King leads with 85.5 percent turnout (1,222,046 ballots), followed by Snohomish at 84.7 percent (428,916 ballots) and Pierce with 80.7 percent (457,971 ballots). Wednesday's ballot drops did not include any major surprises, with many candidates maintaining or extending their election night leads.
