RENTON, WA — A 23-year-old Renton man was arrested in Kent Thursday morning, accused of intentionally running over his girlfriend after an argument, according to police.
Kent police officers responded to the 24700 block of 102nd Place shortly before 4 a.m., following several 911 calls reporting a woman being hit by a car and gunfire. At the scene, a witness told police a couple was arguing outside before the man got inside a vehicle and ran over his girlfriend. Police said the witness saw the man pull the woman off the street and put her in the car, then attempting to leave the area.
According to investigators, the witness confronted the man and fired two shots into the vehicle's tires trying to stop him from leaving the scene. The suspect drove away, and officers spread out in the area to find the vehicle. About 15 minutes later, officers reported the suspect on-foot and arrested him without incident. Police found the vehicle a few minutes later, with the woman still inside. Officers performed CPR, but she did not survive.
Police identified the victim only as a 23-year-old woman from Renton. Her identity and cause of death will be formally released by the King County Medical Examiner. An investigation into the death continues, and the suspect was booked into jail on suspicion of domestic violence homicide. Kent police said formal charges are anticipated soon. A first court appearance is likely on Friday.
