Description
I met Superintendent Jane Stavem at a City Hall meeting recently. She said the district is bound by the state legislature to keep the board of Directors to five, unless the population in the district reaches 400,000. - Bob Yoder, 11/14
Opinion: With LWSD now the 2nd largest school district in the State should our school board expand from 5 directors to 7 directors?A few advantages:
Board member district boundaries are irregular and confusing; they could be delineated into more cohesive, understandable districts. The election process would be more transparent.Work plans would be more comprehensive and regular for greater efficiencies. Two additional perspectives would add to the deliberation mix. More vibrant and effective conversations.Improved representation. The Seattle School Board has 7 Directors. EvergreenHealth expanded from 5 commissioners to 7 commissioners last year. Their chamber was re-configured to accommodate 7 on the Dias.
