Redmond's mayor has chosen the city's finance director to take on a new role as chief operating officer, tasked with running day-to-day operations and coordinating efforts across departments. In a news release Tuesday, Redmond Mayor Angela Birney named Malisa Files, pointing to her six-year tenure as finance director and more than two decades' experience in financial planning. "Malisa brings immense knowledge of the organization and region, leadership experience, and financial expertise to the position," Birney said. "I look forward to continuing our progress on the community's priorities with Malisa in this role." She holds a Master's degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. On top of daily duties, city officials said the chief operating officer is responsible for ensuring consistency across departments and creating "a citywide culture of customer service." According to the city, Redmond's chief operating officer's role is similar to neighboring communities in Renton, Tukwila, Kent and Issaquah.
