2 Deputies Shot, Suspect Killed At Woodinville Apartment Complex

WOODINVILLE, WA — Two King County deputies were hospitalized with critical injuries Monday afternoon after a shootout in the parking lot of a Woodinville apartment complex, according to the sheriff's office. The city has contracted with the sheriff's office to operate the Woodinville Police Department since 1993. Sergeant Tim Meyer, a media relations officer, said the deputies were investigating reports of a possible car prowler in the parking lot of the Beaumont Apartments around 12:15 p.m. According to Meyer, shortly after the deputies made contact with the suspect, he opened fire, hitting both men. The deputies returned fire, hitting and killing the man, officials said. Details on exactly what happened leading up to the gunfire remain under investigation. Meyer said both deputies suffered critical injuries but were stable and expected to survive. The deputies were wearing ballistic vests, per standard procedure. Susan Gregg, a spokesperson for Harborview Medical Center, said a 55-year-old deputy was admitted Monday afternoon in satisfactory condition and being treated at the hospital's emergency department. That deputy was discharged from the hospital shortly before 6 p.m. KING 5 reported the other deputy was released from another hospital a short time later. Investigators have shared little information about the man killed in the shooting. His identity will be released by the King County Medical Examiner's Office. According to KUOW, the Seattle Police Department's Force Investigation Team will probe the circumstances of the shooting.
