In-Person Learning Must Start In Virginia Schools By March 15

What's Up Prince William February 05, 2021 Students and teachers across the state are getting back into the classrooms. Last month, school divisions received guidance about how to safely return to in-person instruction. Virginia Governor Ralph Northam said in a press conference on Friday that they must start offering it by March 15. "By that date, I expect every school division to make in-person learning options available in accordance with the guidance," he said. Plans for summer school options should also be made. The governor emphasized that he wants the return to in-person learning be done safely. Experts have seen an increase in behavior problems, mental health issues and substance abuse, according to Northam. There has been a decline in academic performance, as well. "I know this has been hard on everyone. It has been a school year like no other. It's been hard on children, and it's been hard on our teachers," Northam said. "But we also know this plain fact: children learn better in classrooms. And that's where they need to be."
