Students and teachers across the state are getting back into the classrooms.
Last month, school divisions received guidance about how to safely return to in-person instruction.
Virginia Governor Ralph Northam said in a press conference on Friday that they must start offering it by March 15.
"By that date, I expect every school division to make in-person learning options available in accordance with the guidance," he said.
Plans for summer school options should also be made.
The governor emphasized that he wants the return to in-person learning be done safely.
Experts have seen an increase in behavior problems, mental health issues and substance abuse, according to Northam. There has been a decline in academic performance, as well.
"I know this has been hard on everyone. It has been a school year like no other. It's been hard on children, and it's been hard on our teachers," Northam said. "But we also know this plain fact: children learn better in classrooms. And that's where they need to be."
