WOODBRIDGE, VA – Kenneth Thompkins double-checked to make sure that the numbers he was reading on his computer were correct. And then, just to make sure that he was sure his life was about to change, he looked for a third time. Each time he reviewed what he was seeing in front of him, the Woodbridge resident confirmed the truth as the numbers of the Virginia Lottery ticket he purchased at a 7-Eleven store in Woodbridge matched one of four $1 million winners that were drawn on New Year's Day as part of Virginia's New Year's Millionaire Raffle. Thompkins purchased the ticket at the 7-Eleven on Minnieville Road in Woodbridge, where he had purchased ticket 325475, which was one of the $1 million tickets that were revealed on January 1. "It's unreal," Thompkins told officials from the Virginia Lottery after learning he was one of state's four $1 million winners. The other three $1 million winners were purchased in Farmville, Fredericksburg and Virginia Beach. Six winners also captured $100,000 and an additional 500 people won $500 in the raffle. Thompkins said that he plays the Millionaire Raffle each year. "You never know what might happen," Thompkins said. The Virginia lottery generates more than $1.6 million per day for Virginia's public K-12 schools and helped to generate more than $995 million for public education in fiscal year 2020.
