Vienna's Town Green Events Go Virtual In 2020

Editor's note: This story was updated to reflect the correct time of Summer on the Green: 6:30 p.m. VIENNA, VA — The coronavirus crisis has led the town to cancel many of Vienna's summer events, but a few events will occur virtually. The Summer on the Green, Kids on the Green and Summer Stories and Songs series will be available through Facebook Live. The Town of Vienna will also celebrate its 130th birthday with a Distance Matters 130K virtual challenge. The Summer on the Green concert series will be held at 6:30 p.m. Fridays from July 10 to Aug. 14. Residents are encouraged to set up picnics to watch the concerts in the backyard. Participants can watch the Facebook Live videos to make song requests and dedications, play trivia and virtual bingo, and win prizes. The videos will be available after performances on Facebook Live and YouTube. Performances will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesdays between July 7 and Aug. 18 on Facebook Live. To watch later, check the Town of Vienna's Facebook or YouTube. These events are held by the Town of Vienna, Rotary Club of Vienna and other sponsors. In place of the in-person Summer Stories, Songs & Sprinklers, participants are encouraged to set up a sprinkler to use after the live-streamed stories. Events are held Wednesdays between July 1 and 29 on Facebook Live. Participants can walk, run, hike, bike, or treadmill a cumulative distance of 80.8 miles during the month of July. All participants receive a log to track progress and a medal at completion.
