VIENNA, VA — Vienna Police had a variety of incidents to investigate in the last week, from reports of earlier mail fraud incidents to responding to a political protest. The political protest was outside the Vienna home of U.S. Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri on Monday. Hawley had classified the protesters as "Antifa scumbags," claiming they terrorized his wife and newborn baby while he was in Missouri. Vienna Police spokesman Juan Vazquez told the Associated Press officers responded and explained the violations to the protesters. The protesters left and there were no arrests. Below are the notable reports Vienna Police received from Dec. 30 to Jan. 7. Information on any case can be reported to police at 703-255-6366. Fraud 20-009370Between September 28 at 12:01 a.m. and December 30 at 12:01 a.m.A resident reported that a check she mailed was stolen, forged, and cashed. It was discovered theresident mailed the check in Merrifield, Virginia. The resident was advised to contact the USPostal Inspector to file a report. Fraud 21-000048Between November 17 at 4:45 p.m. and November 27 at 12:00 p.m.A resident reported that a check he mailed at the mailbox on Church Street and Lawyers Road,NW was stolen, forged, and cashed. Note from police: The Vienna Police Department would like to warn citizens that mail has been stolen from the US Post Office collection boxes at the corner of Church St NW and Lawyers Rd NW after being broken into several times this year. The most recent incident occurred overnight from November 22nd to November 23rd. If you used these mailboxes during that time, please ensure that any checks, banknotes, or other important mail reached its intended destination. Mail theft or tampering is investigated by the US Postal Inspection Service and may be reported via their website at https://www.uspis.gov/report/. The Vienna Police department cooperates fully with their investigations and forwards all mail theft reports to the Postal Inspection Service. If you see suspicious activity at the mail collection boxes, contact the Vienna Police Department for an immediate response. To avoid theft, citizens are advised to use the collection mailboxes inside the post office.Vandalism 20-009387 Yeonas Park1319 Ross Dr., SWDecember 31 3:33 p.m.A citizen reported that someone spray-pained the wall of the dugout at one of the ballfields. Petit Larceny 21-000070200 Block Cedar Lane, SEBetween January 4 at 9:00 p.m. and January 5 at 5:00 p.m.A resident reported that someone entered his girlfriend's unlocked vehicle and stole a laptop andan apartment parking permit. Vehicle Tampering 21-000063500 Meadow Lane, SWJanuary 5 3:29 a.m.A resident reported that someone rummaged through his vehicle. Nothing appears to have beentaken. His security camera showed several people running towards his neighbor's driveway.
