Description
HoloRhythm Community Drum School, a music school centered around the traditional rhythms of West Africa, has just launched two new offerings in Roanoke in efforts to spread rhythm and mindfulness with on-going weekly drum and dance classes at The Acorn Gallery, 3215 Brambleton Avenue. Kasey “CaveMan” Jones, founder and musical director hopes to bring West African music, primarily created on traditional instruments known as djembe and dunun, as well as West African dance, to the public’s attention.“It’s been a dream of ours for a long time to bring the joy of West African music to the New River Valley, particularly Roanoke, and these classes are how we hope to build and grow our drum and dance community!” said Jones. HoloRhythm is more than just a music school - the husband and wife team wants to incite joyfulness, instill peace and present students with the opportunity to experience something just outside their comfort zone. When you enter into a class, not only are you inspired to connect with your inner self, but also gain a sense of interpersonal support within the community. The classes are held every Thursday at The Acorn Art Gallery, 3215 Brambleton Avenue, Roanoke Va - a creative multipurpose space and brainchild of Polly Branch, who is also a supporter of Jones’ style of teaching. An All-levels friendly drum class begins at 6:30 taught by Kasey, followed immediately by an All-Levels friendly dance class taught by his wife, Kyra - accompanied by live drums at 7:30. Those who attend drum class are welcome to practice what they’ve learned by playing for the dance class. Class cost is $15 per class, or attend both for $20. HoloRhythm accepts cash, check or card. For a limited time, students can take advantage of attending their first class absolutely free. Drums are available for use, audio recording devices are encouraged.
