Press release from Newport News Public Schools: February 5, 2021 Fall Sports Season Update Posted: February 5, 2021 Varsity student-athletes in Newport News Public Schools will be able to compete in this year's fall sports season; however, JV sports are suspended for the fall season. These decisions were made in cooperation with the school divisions in the Peninsula District. Football, competition cheerleading and sideline cheerleading will begin practicing on February 15. Cross country, field hockey, golf and volleyball will begin practicing on February 22. March 5 is the first contest date for each sport: Fall Season 1: February 15 - May 1 (First Contest Date - March 5) Competition Cheerleading, Football, Sideline Cheer Fall Season 2: February 22 - May 1 (First Contest Date - March 5) Cross Country, Field Hockey, Golf and Volleyball Planning for the spring season (baseball, soccer, softball, tennis, and track and field) is underway.
