MCLEAN, VA — The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to add speed humps on McLean road located off Georgetown Pike. The board's action requests that the Fairfax County Department of Transportation move forward with the traffic calming measures on Douglass Drive as soon as possible. According to board documents, one speed hump will be located adjacent to 6801 Georgetown Pike and 1025 Douglass Drive just south of Georgetown Pike. The other will be south of Langley Springs Court on Douglass Drive. The speed limit is 25 mph. The resolution presented to the Board of Supervisors vote stated that residents in the area of Douglass Drive requested measures to reduce the speed of vehicular traffic on the road. A Fairfax County Department of Transportation study confirmed the speeding concern and community support for traffic calming measures. A Board of Supervisors member can request a road be reviewed for the Residential Traffic Administration Program on behalf of homeowners or civic associations. Traffic calming measures to reduce the speed of traffic on residential streets can include speed humps, speed tables, raised pedestrian crosswalks, chokers and median islands. An engineering study must confirm a road meets the criteria for traffic calming measures. The speed humps are expected to cost $16,000.
