McLean Resident Identified In Potomac River Death

MCLEAN, VA — A body found Tuesday night in the Potomac River between Virginia and Maryland near Great Falls has been identified as a McLean resident. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer said a swift water rescue team was called for a report of a person in distress or a body in the river. The body was found in the rocks at Wet Bottom near Sandy Landing on the Virginia side south of Great Falls. A kayaker and other people on the Virginia side of the river reported the body in the water. The adult man was identified as Ankit Kumar, 30, of McLean, Virginia. Montgomery County Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the death. Kumar's body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy. The autopsy report is pending. Fairfax County Police took a missing person's report, according to a media report.
