FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Fairfax County Public Library transitioned back to offering curbside pickup and virtual services only on Monday. The county's library system had been offering 30-minute express visits with limited services since mid-July 2020. Libraries had shut down in mid-March 2020 and introduced curbside pickup in June. The library did not say what led to the change, but last spring's closing decision had related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fairfax County has experienced higher daily coronavirus case averages since late November than previous months of the pandemic, according to Virginia Department of Health data. New hospitalizations are lower than the spring peak but are higher than much of the summer and early fall. Libraries will continue to offer virtual programming. Curbside pickup hours at all branches are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The contactless pickup allows members to pick up holds on a pickup table outside the library. Books are packaged in a plastic bag. Library members can find more information on curbside pickup services here.
