Second Public Meeting Planned On Route 28 Improvements

MANASSAS PARK, VA — Local residents will have a second opportunity to weigh in on possible improvements to Route 28, a main commuter thoroughfare that passes through Manassas and Manassas Park. After holding a public information meeting in October, the Virginia Department of Transportation is planning a second one to talk about potential operational improvements on a two-mile stretch of the roadway. Along with public input, VDOT officials plan to conduct a study on how to best improve and reduce congestion on Route 28. The study will be completed through the Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions (STARS) program, which aims to identify cost-effective measures to carry out improvements. The study will look at the following ways to improve the stretch of Route 28 between Blooms Quarry Lane and the Fairfax County line: Innovative intersections such as roundabouts and overpassesImproved traffic signal timing and operations·Turn lane improvements·Access management for properties along the corridor including new medians·Pedestrian enhancements including crosswalks and new sidewalks The public information meeting will be held from 6-8 p.m. Nov. 20 at Cougar Elementary School, 9330 Brandon St. in Manassas Park.
