MANASSAS, VA — The identity of a 27-year-old Washington, DC, man whose heavily decomposed body was found at a Manassas recycling center in October has been released by Prince William County police as detectives continue to attempt to locate members of the man's family.
Police announced Friday that the man has been identified as Edwin Raul Morales Diaz, who was found Oct. 13 at the American Recycling Center on Residency Road in Manassas. Police are now asking for public assistance in helping locate family members for Diaz after detectives have been unsuccessful in finding any relatives for the man since the time his body was found three months ago.
Police said Friday that an investigation determined that Diaz may have been homeless and was known to stay in the northwest part of Washington, DC. At this time, police do not believe the man's death was the result of a homicide, but detectives continue to investigate Diaz's death.
Police were notified of the man's body just before 8 a.m. on Oct. 13, when a recycling center employee told officers that the body was found within the facility. Diaz's body was taken to the medical examiner's office for further examination and an autopsy, police reported at the time.
