MANASSAS, VA — On New Year's Day, residents in Manassas will leave behind a year marked by unprecedented hardship and challenges. After spending much of the year navigating the once-in-a-lifetime coronavirus pandemic, many will no doubt welcome 2021 with open arms. As we ring in the new year in our town, many local facilities and government offices will take the day off to recognize the start of the new year. Here's a look at what's open and closed in the area on New Year's: All city of Manassas offices and facilities will be closed New Year's Day.There will be no trash or recycling collection New Year's Day. Friday's trash will be collected on Saturday. The county landfill in Manassas and the Balls Ford Road Compost Facility are closed New Year's Day. Residents may take recycling to several drop-off trailers throughout the county. No bulk waste collection will be scheduled for Saturday.The Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed New Year's Day.
