Loudoun Schools Move Forward With Hybrid In-Person Model

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — The Loudoun County School Board approved a plan Tuesday night to start stage two of in-person hybrid learning. The board directed staff to prepare to initiate part-time in-person learning for students in grades K-2 on Oct. 27. Families that want to have their children attend school entirely online may continue with 100-percent distance learning after stage two begins, the school board said. The Loudoun school board voted last month for stage one of the school system's four-stage hybrid model implementation to begin Oct. 13 with in-person learning once or twice a week for select special education students, followed by certain English-learning students and preschoolers on Oct. 27, the Loudoun Times-Mirror reported. Some parents and students called for in-person learning to happen across all grade levels. They believe all students need to get back to in-person learning as soon as possible instead of waiting for a coronavirus vaccine. Also on Tuesday, the Fairfax County School Board approved a plan from Superintendent Scott Brabrand to bring limited students back for in-person learning in October. According to Brabrand's presentation to the school board, Fairfax County Public Schools will bring back students in greatest need of additional support for in-person instruction in cohorts.
