HERNDON, VA — Although the final numbers won't be certified until Nov. 16, unofficial results show that Sheila Olem, the current vice mayor of Herndon, defeated challenger Roland Taylor to be the town's next mayor.
In the Town Council race, eight candidates were vying for six seats Tuesday. The six candidates who received the most votes were Cesar A. del Aguila, Pradip Dhakal, Sean M. Regan, Naila Alam, Signe V. Friedrichs, and Jasbinder Singh, according to unofficial results. Of those six, del Aguila, Dhakal, and Friedrichs are incumbents. Singh served previously on the Town Council in 2010-2012 and 2014-2016. The remaining two — Alam and Regan are newcomers to the council.
In the 11th Congressional District, incumbent U.S. Representative Gerry E. "Gerry" Connolly (D) defeated Republican challenger by a wide margin, according to unofficial numbers from the Virginia Department of Elections.
