Baseball, St. George's Exhibits Highlight Museum's Reopening

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — The Fredericksburg Area Museum (FAM) will reopen to the public March 1 with new exhibits and more planned for later in 2020. Housed in the historic Town Hall/Market House on Princess Anne Street, the museum, which temporarily closed on Jan. 1 for winter, has been operating for more than 30 years. From March 1 to April 30, the FAM will be housing an exhibit called "Hometown Teams: How Sports Shape America," a Smithsonian traveling exhibition that examines the many roles that sports play in American society. This exhibit is sponsored by Germanna Community College and the Fredericksburg Nationals. Another new exhibit opening March 1 is "The People's Gallery," which will showcase the collections of Fredericksburg residents, from Matchbox cars to sports memorabilia. The exhibit will be located on the second floor of the museum. With the Fredericksburg Nationals scheduled to play their first home game in late April, the FAM is preparing an exhibit called "the Baseball Change-Up!" The exhibit will look at ways baseball plays a major part in the lives of people in the community. The exhibit, sponsored by Germanna Community College and the Fredericksburg Nationals, will be opening sometine in April. An exact date has not been set. On May 16, FAM will open an exhibit titled "St. George's: The Church in the Public Square," which will provide an in-depth look at the history of St. George's Parish, located at 905 Princess Anne St., in celebration of its 300th anniversary. An area of land was designated as St. George's Parish as early as 1720. The exhibit is sponsored by the congregation of St. George's Episcopal Church. FAM members will have special access to each of the exhibits prior to the official public openings.
