Coronavirus Threat Leads Fredericksburg Area Museum To Close

FREDERICSKBURG, VA — The Fredericksburg Area Museum closed its doors to visitors Friday due to the coronavirus outbreak and will remain closed until the museum's board of directors determine it's safe to reopen, the museum said Friday. "This decision is not made lightly," Fredericksburg Area Museum President and CEO Sara Poore said Friday in a statement. "Our goal is to do what we can to ensure the continued safety of our patrons and to support the Fredericksburg community as we all work together to keep the spread of the virus reduced." The Fredericksburg Area Museum opened to the public March 1 with new exhibits after temporarily closing Jan. 1 to prepare the museum for its 2020 season. One of the headlining exhibits is called "Hometown Teams: How Sports Shape America," a Smithsonian traveling exhibition that examines the many roles that sports play in American society. "We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and will reopen for visitation once the threat has passed," Poore said. The Fredericksburg Area Museum is located at 907 Princess Anne St. in the historic downtown area.
