FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A new parking garage has opened in Fredericksburg, giving the downtown area a total of two public parking garages. The new 321-space Winchester Street garage is between Liberty Place and Winchester Place. The garage entrance is on Winchester Street between William and Amelia streets. Some of the spaces in the garage are set aside for the Liberty Place tenants. The Vakos Companies, which is building Winchester Place and is working on a development where the Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star newspaper used to be located, owns the garage. The city of Fredericksburg worked with Vakos Companies and Liberty Place developer Wack General Contractor on the downtown garage project. Payment to park in the garage is by credit card only. Both hourly and monthly parking rates are available in the garage. Starting out, the parking rates are $4 for the first hour, $5 for one hour to two hours, $7 for two to four hours, $10 for four to eight hours, $12 for eight hours and 10 hours, and $16 for 10 to 24 hours. A lost parking ticket will cost the driver $35. The city of Fredericksburg owns the 297-space garage off Wolfe Street between Sophia and Caroline streets in addition to many downtown surface parking lots.
