STAFFORD, VA — A 25-year-old Stafford man is being held without bond after being arrested late Saturday night in the shooting death of a New York man Friday night in Stafford, police said Sunday.
Kevin Monsivais was arrested and charged with second degree murder, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony and shooting a firearm in on occupied dwelling, the Stafford County Sheriff's Office said. Monsivais was arrested following the shooting, which took place just before 9 p.m. at an apartment on Setter Circle in Silver Collection at Celebrate.
Police found a 26-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head. The man, who has been identified as Jareal Marryshow of New York, was taken to a local hospital, where he died later from his injuries, police said. Investigators initially were told that it was believed that Marryshow had shot himself at the apartment, where he had been staying recently.
But after working throughout the night and speaking with witnesses, investigators determined the man had died had in homicide and not a suicide. Deputies obtained an arrest warrant for Monsivais, who was charged in the shooting death of Marryshow, whom police said he lived with in the apartment.
Monsivais was arrested just before midnight on Saturday and was taken into custody at the Quality Inn on Plank Road, police said. Monsivais is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
