Coronavirus Testing Events Planned In 2 Fairfax County Areas

ANNANDALE, VA — Free community testing events will be held in two Fairfax County areas hit hard by the new coronavirus pandemic. The drive-thru and walk-in testing will not require a doctor referral, appointment, or insurance. The events will be held Saturday, May 23 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Annandale High School and Sunday, May 24 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Bailey's Elementary School. Testing is only available for individuals age 2 and up. The testing events are supported by the Virginia Department of Health and Fairfax County Health Department with Mako Medical Laboratories. Public health officials say the free testing aims to limit community spread in the Annandale and Bailey's Crossroads communities, where people may be uninsured and underinsured. Spanish speakers will be available at the sites. The two areas have some of the highest case rates in the county. According to Fairfax County's data dashboard, the 22041 ZIP code covering Bailey's Crossroads and part of Lake Barcroft has 487 cases and a rate of 1,740 cases per 100,000 people. This ZIP code has a population of 27,989. The 22003 ZIP code covering Annandale has 714 cases, or 1275.2 per 100,000 people. This zip code has a population of 55,990. The drive-thru testing locations are among upcoming state-supported community testing events Gov. Ralph Northam announced Monday. The governor indicated the Fairfax County testing events would provide 3,000 tests. Drive-thru and walk-up testing events were held in Prince William County on May 18 and 19, and a Leesburg event is planned on May 20. Details on a May 25 event with 3,000 tests in Alexandria will be announced, Mayor Justin Wilson wrote Monday.
