FALLS CHURCH, VA —As we move away from the Christmas holiday, some residents may be looking to remove their Christmas trees. There are several ways to remove your trees in Falls Church. Fairfax County Fire and Rescue recommends removing your tree after Christmas or when it is dry. The National Fire Protection Association says dried-out trees present a fire hazard and should not be left in homes or garages or placed against a home. In the City of Falls Church, Christmas trees are collected free of charge on Wednesdays in January and February, starting on Jan. 6. Trees should be placed at the curb after removing plastic bags, rope and all decorations. Residents who live in apartments and condominiums can recycle trees at the Fairfax County Citizens' Disposal and Recycling Facility's brush collection area, 4618 West Ox Road, Fairfax, VA. If you live in Fairfax County, licensed collectors will collect and recycle real Christmas trees of less than 8 feet at single family homes and townhouse communities during the first two weeks in January. For county collection customers, collections will happen from Jan. 11 to 22. After Jan. 22, customers can schedule a brush pickup. Residents can also recycle trees at the I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) or I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) for a $7 fee. All ornaments, decorations and stands must be removed before disposal. The Recycling and Disposal Centers at the I-66 Transfer Station and the I-95 Landfill Complex will close at 2 p.m. on New Year's Eve (Thursday, Dec. 31) through New Year's Day (Friday, Jan. 1).
