BURKE, VA — Fairfax Connector workers with the ATU Local 1764 union went on strike Thursday, impacting bus routes throughout the county. The union cited "unfair labor practices" by Fairfax Connector's private contractor Transdev. The strike is expected to cause significant disruptions to commutes as the union and Transdev negotiate a new contract for Fairfax Connector workers. Metrobus workers have also been on strike at the Cinder Bed Road Bus garage, which is privately operated by Transdev and serves various Northern Virginia bus routes. According to Metro alerts, some routes serving the Burke area are still not operating. Because limited Fairfax Connector workers are reporting for duty, some routes are not running. Others are running on a Sunday schedule rather than a weekday schedule. According to an update from Fairfax Connector, here are the Friday service impacts on bus routes serving the Burke and West Springfield areas: 306: GMU - Pentagon: Not operating310: Franconia Road - Rolling Valley: Sunday schedule321: Springfield Counter-Clockwise: Sunday service322: Springfield Clockwise: Sunday service340: Patriot Ridge - Saratoga: Not operating341: Boston Blvd - Saratoga: Not operating393: Saratoga - Mark Center - Pentagon: Not operating394: Saratoga - Pentagon Express: Not operating395: Gambrill - Pentagon Express: Not operating495: Burke Centre VRE - Tysons: Not operating"Passengers affected by these service changes may want to consider alternate ways to travel, such as carpooling, taking Metrobus, Metrorail, or Virginia Railway Express (VRE) service, or biking, walking, and teleworking," said the county in a statement.
