Spot Golf Discusses Driving Range With Loudoun Golf Club: Report

DULLES, VA — A golf and entertainment company is in discussions with the operator of the 1757 Golf Club in eastern Loudoun County about building a driving range and entertainment venue, the Washington Business Journal (WBJ) reported Jan. 7. The company also told WBJ it is in discussions with other potential locations in the region but did not disclose specifically where. Reston-based Billy Casper Golf, which operates and manages the 100-acre 1757 Golf Club in Loudoun County, is talking with Spot Golf LLC, a Vint Hill, Virginia-based golf entertainment company, about the driving range project. Rockville-based Lerner Enterprises owns the property at the 1757 Golf Club. A potential competitor, Topgolf, operates a driving range and entertainment venue in the Commonwealth Center in Ashburn just off Route 7, only five miles north of the 1757 Golf Club. Including the Asbhurn location, Topgolf now has two locations in the region after the closure of its Alexandria facility. Oncore Golf, which is a partner and affiliate of Spot Golf, is the developer behind a similar project in Buffalo, New York, according to WBJ. In addition to a three-tiered driving range and radar and camera systems to judge the distance a ball travels, the Buffalo venue will include a 160-room hotel. Two weeks ago, a fire at the 1757 Golf Club destroyed a golf cart storage facility. The Dec. 26 fire was caused by an electrical malfunction in a golf cart, WTOP reported.
