Loudoun Receives $10M Grant For Water Storage Project

ASHBURN, VA — A $10 million federal grant will pay to build a water reservoir in Loudoun County. The new reservoir will provide an extra water supply for the Washington, D.C., region in case of an emergency, according to a joint news release from senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner. The grant will partially pay for the construction of the reservoir. The construction project will convert the retired Luck Stone Quarry in Loudoun into a reservoir that could hold more than 1 billion gallons of water. "All Virginians deserve reliable access to healthy drinking water," the senators said in the news release. "We are glad to announce this $10 million grant to support a safe and dependable water supply in Loudoun County." The funds from the grant will help construct and install a new pumping station with four turbine pumps and water transmission mains to fill and release water from the reservoir when it is completed. The new reservoir will supplement the area's water supply in the event of a drought.
