ARLINGTON, VA — After six days without any new deaths in the Arlington Health District due to COVID-19, the disease associated with the new coronavirus, the Virginia Department of Health confirmed one additional death on Thursday. This bring the total number of deaths in the health district to 127. There are seven new cases of the new coronavirus in the Arlington Health District as of Thursday morning, bringing the total number of cases in the health district to 2,445. In the health district, there are currently 416 hospitalized patients, up one patient since Wednesday. As of Thursday, there are 59,946 total cases statewide, according to data reported by the Virginia Department of Health. In Virginia, there have been 1,675 coronavirus-related deaths to date. There are currently 5,995 hospitalized COVID-19 patients. There have been 16 coronavirus outbreaks in the Arlington Health District as of Thursday, with 543 cases related to an outbreak. There have been 11 outbreaks at long term care facilities, two outbreaks at a congregate setting and three outbreaks in health care settings in Arlington. There have been 171 reported coronavirus cases in Arlington health care workers. On Thursday, Virginia health officials reported 20,840 COVID-19 tests have been taken in Arlington, with a 3.6 percent positivity rate. Statewide there have been 654,500 COVID-19 tests taken, with a 5.8 percent positivity rate. Virginia plans to enter phase three of its coronavirus reopening plan for businesses and other establishments across the state, including Northern Virginia, starting July 1, Gov. Ralph Northam said Tuesday at a news conference in Richmond. The governor said public health metrics are moving in a direction that makes him confident the state can safely start phase three next week. Globally, more than 9.4 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 483,000 people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Thursday morning.
