ANNANDALE, VA — A person was sent to the hospital during a fire in Annandale Sunday night, according to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.
Around 9:27 p.m., Fairfax County and Alexandria units responded to a townhouse in the 4500 block of Airlie Way. Units found fire visible from the second floor of the middle-unit home and received a report of a person trapped. Four residents were home when the fire broke out, and a resident unsuccessfully tried to rescue the trapped resident.
Firefighters found and rescued the resident on the second floor. She was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. There were no reported injuries to firefighters.

Five people were displaced and accepted Red Cross assistance. The fire department estimated damages were around $20,000.
