From the Burlington School District: November 10, 2020 On Thursday, November 6th, a special board meeting was held to discuss the in-person learning options for the short and long-term future of BHS and BTC. Short-term Update – Superintendent Flanagan shared that the administration is working to provide in-person learning for BHS students at the Edmunds Campus on Wednesdays. He also noted that the District has had fruitful conversations with UVM about using their facilities instead of Edmunds beginning December 1st. The results of the BHS/BTC Short and Long-term In-person Learning survey were also discussed. Long-term – BSD has two options to get BHS students back to in-person learning in early second semester; both plans have significant costs associated. Option A – Macy's Occupancy Timeline: February Fit-Up: $3.5 million Rent (total for 2.5 years): $2.5-3.5 million Total: $6-7 million Option B – Temporary Trailer Rentals Occupancy (on BHS Baseball field) Timeline: Unclear Fit-Up: $3-6 million Rent (total for 2.5 years): $4.9 million Total: $8-11 million The Board authorized Superintendent Flanagan to enter into negotiations, pursuing both options with a plan to bring forward a recommendation to the board as soon as possible.
