Description

Press release from the City of Irving: February 15, 2021 Updated Feb. 18, 2021 Temperatures today will climb into the upper 20s and lower 30s. A bit of sunshine is possible this afternoon, allowing for some melting to occur. Tonight will be colder than the last two nights with lows falling into the teens with some spotty locations in the single digits. This will be the coldest night for the next several days. Refreezing of slush/snow/ice on roads tonight is expected. Wind chills will range from -5 to 10 degrees Friday morning, Feb. 19. Friday daytime temperatures will reach above freezing. But any melting experienced during the day Friday will refreeze overnight, potentially causing slick surfaces on Saturday morning. Starting Saturday, Feb. 20, the region's temperatures will stabilize to above freezing temperatures during the day, allowing for a sustained thaw. As temperatures increase, the pipes that have been frozen may start bursting, leading to increased water issues. Motorists should stay aware, especially in morning hours, for the potential refreezing of slush/water on roads that did not dry during the day or were cleared. Stay Safe With record low temperatures and increased demand for electricity and natural gas, residents are experiencing extended outages. Contact Oncor (below) to report an electricity outage. Pipes are likely to freeze. Drip interior faucets, especially those adjacent to exterior walls, and open cabinet doors to ensure plumbing gets additional warm air. Residents are urged to use extreme safety precautions with candles, space heaters and other alternative heat sources to reduce fire risk. Helpful Links Opens a New Window.
