Description

A writing class for all levels. All levels welcome; for those interested in writing but do not know where to begin, for experienced writers and would like a little help, or those looking for assistance with writing to get into a college; this class is for you. We will address all genres of interest! From technical writing, such as cover letters, to fictional writing for storylines, we'll tackle each students' likes and areas of interest. Our only goal is to express ourselves through writing and have fun. Materials: Something, ANYTHING, to jot down your thoughts consecutively! A notebook and pen/pencil is fine, but a laptop/tablet or smartphone with a notes app is encouraged. We will start each class with 5-10 minutes of free writing. Areas of focus-, approx. 15-30 minutes of instructional/question time Grammar conventions and when to break them Thesaurus/word variety vs. repetitionHow to research to write your pieceShow, don't tell- learn how to be descriptive in your writingPoetry (and where to submit)Help with essays, whether it's for high school or college, learn tips and tricks to keep papers fun. The remainder of classes will be spent going over the work written throughout the course. Publishing work can be scary, but we'll work to build confidence in students and convey that rejection doesn't mean to stop trying!
