WHARTON COUNTY, TX — Five people, including a 2-year-old, were killed early Sunday morning in a crash on US-59 outside Wharton in Wharton County. A 6-month-old was hospitalized after the crash.
A black Cadillac SUV and Nissan Altima collided just before 4 a.m. on the highway near the FM 961 and Highway 60 exit, according to a report from ABC 13. The SUV was southbound when it veered over a grassy median and into the northbound lanes, according to the report.
The driver of the SUV was found dead at the scene of the crash. Three adults and the toddler in the Nissan also died, and a 6-month-old in that car was hospitalized.
Identities of the fatal victims were not available as of Sunday afternoon.
Northbound US-59 was closed for at least an hour as police investigated the crash, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
