Houston has 9 of the best 500 high schools in America when it comes to science, technology, engineering and mathematics, according to a new ranking. The Newsweek report, released earlier this month, shows Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professionals in Houston is the city's highest ranked STEM school, with an overall score of 97.38 out of 100. The school was ranked no.23 on Newsweek's list. Here are all the STEM schools in Houston that earned a spot on the list: Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professionals, No. 23 (Public school) Strake Jesuit College Preparatory School, No. 27 (Private school) The Village School, No. 101 (Private school) St. John's School, No. 105 (Private school) The Awty International School, No. 130 (Private school) The Kinkaid School, N0. 223 (Private school) St. Agnes Academy, No. 234 (Private school) Memorial High School, No. 263 (Public school) Carnegie Vanguard High School, No. 308 (Public school) "With high-profile institutions in big urban areas and small but strong programs across the nation, America's future in science, technology, engineering and mathematics is in good hands," the report's researchers said. Newsweek and STEM.org determined the rankings by utilizing regression analysis to evaluate which primary and secondary institutions in America best offer students quality experience in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, while also preparing them for post-school life. Texas had three schools crack the top 10 best STEM schools overall in the country, including the top two institutions. School of Science and Engineering, located in Dallas, Texas, was ranked as the No. 1 STEM school in the United States. STEM schools in eight different states made the top 10.
