One sunny Saturday morning in July, Lake Highlands neighbor Lou Bono set out for his daily constitutional on the walking trails near his home in Town Creek. About lunch time, wife Jean, a member of the Richardson ISD school board, noticed he hadn't returned and began trying to find him. She couldn't call him – he'd left his phone behind. He wasn't out doing errands – he'd left his car keys behind. She began to search, and she enlisted the help of grown sons Brent and Shane.
As the hours wore on with no sign of Lou, Jean called nearby hospitals. She wasn't surprised when they said they had no such man. At 6'5", the former Boy Scout leader and lover-of-all-things-outdoors seemed the picture of health.
By dinner time, Jean posted a message on Facebook, asking friends to help search for the now clearly missing Lou. Dozens of neighbors stepped out of their homes to walk streets, alleys and trails, to no avail. Jean inquired at Fire Station 28, and they confirmed that yes, they had been called by a woman who found a stranger bloody on the trail. Apparently Lou had fallen and hit his head.
