Learn how to style type 4 curly textured hair with two classic techniques: The twist out and silk press. Exciting Update! CON-ED HOURS ARE OFFERED The fee to receive the hours will be an additional $20.91, you will receive either 3 or 6 hours (respective to the time you attended), and the payment link will be given to you at the event. Textured Hair 101 is for all stylists and cosmo students who want to improve their understanding (or maybe learn for the first time) the basics of styling type 4 curly textured hair. This class encourages inclusivity by giving stylists the confidence to bridge the racial divide that has been present in salons since the dawn of our industry. Seats will be socially distanced. Masks are required. Theory: 10am-1pm ($110) Hands-On: 2-5pm ($75) Welcome to Textured Hair 101! Your instructor, Crystal Long, will teach you two of the most common ethnic/textured hair styles: The SILK PRESS transforms micro-textured curl into silky, shiny, straight hair with a blowdryer, flat iron, and surprisingly: plastic wrap! You'll feel like a magician of all hair textures when you see that hair swing and learn new fundamental skills that can be applied to each and every client. The TWIST OUT gives clients with type 4 textured hair two different looks that can last for up to 4 weeks. The first look gives controlled twisty curls. The second look is created when the first is released from its set and creates bouncy, and full twisted texture. This class will have two segments: Theory and Hands-On. You may come to one, the other, or both. But in order to take the Hand-On segment - you must take Theory in the morning or have previously taken Textured Hair 101. Here are the details for each segment... THEORY 10-1pm: $110 Learn the approach and steps to creating twist outs and silk press styles on highly textured hair. Understand home care regimes and scalp care. Receive a complimentary tool kit and product recommendations. The tool kit includes a theory booklet, 4 combs, 3 brushes, hair ties, a silk scarf, and flexible rods. Watch Crystal perform these services on live models in an interactive class setting. No question is off limits! -LUNCH BREAK- 1 HOUR - HANDS-ON 2-5pm: $75 Students are required to take the THEORY segment unless they have previously attended Textured Hair 101. You will create one of the two looks on your model. Crystal will provide individual help to each student after a quick review of the steps. At the end of class, each student will 'show and tell' what they did with their model so that the learning experience is maximized. Come, learn, and enjoy!
