Knox County Lawmakers Named To Committees In State Legislature

From the Knoxville Chamber: January 19, 2021 Lt. Gov. Randy McNally won re-election without opposition as Speaker of the Senate, and subsequently appointed Sen. Richard Briggs as chairman of the State & Local Government Committee and reappointed Sen. Becky Duncan Massey to lead the Transportation & Safety Committee. Massey will continue to serve as a member of the Health Committee. Briggs will also serve as a member of the Rules and Transportation & Safety committees. On the House side, Knoxville's freshmen legislators – Michele Carringer, Eddie Mannis and Sam McKenzie – received appointments to Education committees, while Rep. Justin Lafferty was named chair of the Higher Education Subcommittee. Other committee assignments for Knox County's delegation include: Carringer: Education Administration Committee and K-12 Subcommittee; State Government Committee and Departments and Agencies Subcommittee. Gloria Johnson: Government Operations Committee; Naming and Designating Committee. Lafferty: Education Administration Committee and chair, Higher Education Subcommittee; Government Operations and Insurance Committees Mannis: Commerce Committee and Business and Utilities Subcommittee; Education Instruction Committee; Local Government Committee and Elections and Campaign Finance Subcommittee. McKenzie: Education Instruction Committee and Subcommittee; Transportation Committee. Dave Wright: Vice Chair, Local Government Committee and member, Cities and Counties Subcommittee, Elections and Campaign Finance Subcommittee; Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee and Property and Planning Subcommittee.
