Plant Stars is hiring a lead gardener! We are a small landscape design, installation, and garden care company based in Oakland/Berkeley. We strive to do exceptional work, are client-focused, love plants, and prioritize regenerative practices. Most of our gardens are in Oakland, Berkeley, and Piedmont. We’re hiring a part time (3 days/week) lead gardener that is passionate about gardening and dedicated to a career in landscaping and horticulture. We are committed to our team’s professional development and education. What you don’t already know, we will train you to do. This position has good opportunities for growth and could become full time. ROLE: Lead Gardener JOB DESCRIPTION: -Typical work days include identifying seasonally appropriate garden care tasks, weeding, pruning, mulching, plant identification, plant care, integrated pest management, and edible garden care. -Irrigation system management – testing, minor repairs, and controller programming. -Occasional small garden installations including soil preparation, grading, carpentry, masonry, planting, irrigation installation, and mulching. QUALIFICATIONS: -An excellent positive attitude and sense of humor -A willingness to learn and a desire to do good work -2+ years professional landscape, garden, construction, or related work experience -Reliable, prompt, and able to work hard -Ability to lift up to 50 lbs -Ability to work independently and with a team -Willingness and experience overseeing others -Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills -Great customer service skills and professional communication with clients -Clean CA Driver’s License, own transportation and smartphone -Proficient in English DESIRED SKILLS (not required): -Experience with landscape construction, masonry, carpentry, metal work (up to 5 days/week for applicants with construction skills/interest) -Experience with Vectorworks and interest in design work (up to 5 days/week for applicants with design/drafting skills) -Bilingual English/Spanish COVID19 PROTOCOLS: We wear masks, social distance with coworkers, and limit interactions with clients.
