OLD ADOBE UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT CUSTODIAN II 9:00 am - 5:30 pm, Monday - Friday Year- round position DEFINITION: Under general supervision or direction, plans, schedules, performs, and as required, supervises and assigns routine cleaning work in school buildings, and performs other related work as assigned. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: The Custodian II classification is distinguished from other classes in the operations series in that incumbents are required to schedule and review the work of others in addition to their regular assigned custodial duties. Additional experience is required to be eligible for consideration for this classification. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: • Schedules work to be performed and makes work assignments to other custodians; • Reviews work performed and keeps track of hours worked; • Sets up and takes down tables, chairs, and other furniture for lunch periods, special classes, community groups, meetings, and assemblies; • Sets up public address systems; • Cleans rooms after use and rearranges furniture; • Receives and stores school supplies; may order, store and account for custodial supplies; • Submits work requests for major maintenance and repair work; • Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes concrete, linoleum, tile and wood floors; sweeps sidewalks, picks up rubbish and paper; empties and cleans garbage cans and waste containers; • Waters lawns, shrubs and trees, pulls weeds; • Performs minor maintenance work such as removing rocks from sprinkler heads, repairing door closers and stops, cleaning toilet valves, relighting boiler pilot valves, replacing broken tile, replacing broken drapery hooks, replacing lights, adjusting door striking plates, cleaning sink traps, repairing pencil sharpeners, cleaning roof drains and resetting clocks; • Performs special cleaning tasks requested by staff; • Washes, scrubs and disinfects rest rooms; • Corrects and/or reports sanitary or safety hazards; • Performs and supervises general cleaning tasks in assigned school classrooms, offices and related facilities during the summer months and long vacation periods; • Cleans up after ill children; • Reports needed repairs to supervisor; • Performs other related work as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of: • Methods, materials and equipment used in custodial work; • Requirements for maintaining a school building in a safe, clean and orderly condition; • General principles and effective techniques of supervision. Ability to: • Schedule and supervise the work of others; • Instruct and train custodians in the proper performance of their duties; • Work cooperatively with others; • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions; • Use simple mechanical tools in making small non-technical repairs; • Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform assigned duties; • Maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties; • Learn and follow the practices, rules, and regulations of the District and the school to which assigned; • Maintain the confidentiality of school related information. EDUCATION: • Graduation from twelfth grade or equivalent. EXPERIENCE: • Three (3) years of full time paid experience as a custodian. • Supervisory experience desirable. OTHER: • Post Offer/Pre-Placement Physical examination is required prior to hire. Physical demands are available for review upon request. RESPONSIBLE TO: • Facilities Supervisor as assigned.
