Wayland Suspends Coronavirus Vaccinations Due To New State Rule

WAYLAND, MA — Wayland is suspending local coronavirus vaccine clinics after a major policy change at the state level. This week, the state Department of Public Health told cities and towns that it would no longer provide first vaccine doses for local clinics after March 1. State officials want residents to instead seek inoculations at supersites. "Please understand that we are greatly discouraged with this situation as we want to continue to provide vaccinations and are advocating for vaccine supplies, as well as exploring other options to deploy vaccination clinics," the Wayland Health Department said in an update Friday. Effective Friday, Wayland will no longer allow residents to sign up for local appointments. Anyone who received a first dose from the town will most likely be able to get a second dose at the local level. A vaccine supersite will open at the Natick Mall on Monday, although appointments that opened up on Thursday were gone from the state's vaccine website quickly. There are also sites at Worcester State University, Fenway Park and Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.
