SALEM, MA — Rachel Luddy, a biomedicine and veterinary science major at the University of New Hampshire, was one of the Salem students recently honored for academic or athletic achievement at schools across the country. Luddy graduated cum laude from UNH with a bachelor of science degree in December. Students who received the honor of cum laude graduated with a GPA of 3.50 to 3.64. Thien-Kim Nguyen, of Salem, was named to the Dean's List at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. The class of 2022 major in biology and biotechnology was named to the university's Dean's List for academic excellence for the fall 2020 semester. A total of 2,078 undergraduate students achieved the criteria required for WPI's fall 2020 Dean's List. The criteria for the WPI Dean's List differs from that of most other universities as WPI does not compute a grade-point average. Instead, WPI defines the Dean's List by the amount of work completed at the "A" level in courses and projects. "WPI's academic programs are rigorous and require a level of independence beyond what is required in traditional courses. WPI students work on open-ended problems for communities around the world. The problems are important and the impact is real," Dean of Undergraduate Studies Arthur C. Heinricher said. "Some of this nation's best and brightest students come to WPI to study engineering and science and business and the humanities. Those named to the Dean's List have excelled in all of their work, and we are exceptionally proud of these outstanding students." (Patch is looking to recognize Salem students who have gone on to succeed athletically and academically at colleges or universities. Let us know their stories at [email protected].)
